Native Trout Fly Fishing

Hooked up with a native cutthroat on the Puget Sound.

Puget Sound Coastal Cutthroat

Washington's Puget Sound offers a year-round fishery for native sea-run coastal cutthroat trout and provides a native trout experience unlike any other in the lower 48 states. These hard fighting cutthroat range from 10" to 20" and cruise the shallows along gravel beaches and estuaries well within the range of fly anglers. These trips are based out of my home town of Gig Harbor, WA and both full and half day walk and wade options are available. Modest casting ability required.

Seasons: Year-round (April - November is the best time)

Rates:

Half Day (4 hours of fishing): $225.00 for one or two anglers

Full Day (8 hours of fishing and shore lunch): $350.00 for one or two anglers ($50.00 addition charge for a third angler)

Off-season Rates (December - March):

Half Day (4 hours of fishing): $175

Olympic Peninsula Stream and Saltwater Combo

The Olympic Peninsula abounds in oppurtunities for the angler seeking native trout and these trips allow you to sample two of them in one day. Spend half of the day plying the waters of the glacially carved Hood Canal for sea-run coastal cutthroat, then travel into the mountains to fish the crystal clear streams for native coastal rainbows and cutthroat. These trips involve some walking, but nothing too strenuous.

Seasons: June through October

Rates:

Full Day (8 hours of fishing and shore lunch): $395.00 for one or two anglers ($50.00 addition charge for a third angler)

East Slope Cascades Small Stream Redband and Westslope cutthroat

The eastern slope of the Cascade Mountains offers some of the best small stream dry fly fishing in the state. Although the native redbands and westslope cutthroat are not always huge, they are plentiful and willing rise to a dry fly.

Seasons: June through October

Rates:

Full Day (8 hours of fishing and shore lunch): $375.00 for one or two anglers ($50.00 addition charge for a third angler)

Olympic Peninsula Steelhead

Although I don't typically run guided trips for steelhead on the Olympic Peninsula, I do have experience on several smaller streams across the region. I also have several affiliated guides that specialize in steelhead and I certainly can help arrange a trip for you. With options ranging from walk and wade for small stream steelhead to float trips on the more famous rivers a number of options are available.

Seasons: November through April

Rates:

Full Day (8 hours of fishing and shore lunch): $395.00 for one or two anglers.
